Murchinson Falls

This is the largest National Park (NP) in Uganda. It has an area of 3840 km2 and is situated between altitudes of 619m and 1292m. Most of the park is covered with wooded savannah. The savannah is bisected by the Victoria River Nile, which divides the park into the northern and southern parts. The river flows over the Western Rift Valley escarpment between Lake Kyoga and Lake Albert, and falls 43 m over a 7 meter gap.

Together with Queen Elisabeth NP, the park is the most important sanctuary for plains animals. A boat cruise upstream to the falls provides an unforgettable experience. The falls can also be viewed from the top of the cliffs. The different perspective greatly affects the overall impression.

On the North bank you have the typical Borassus palm savannah which hosts most of the game that can be seen. The boat cruise is the most prominent attraction in the park and one of the great experiences in Africa. The abundant game includes elephants, Rothschild's giraffes, buffalo's, Nile crocodiles and many birds, and can be admired at the water's edge from the boat.
